About Us

Our Story
Bayberry Riding Center was established in 1974 by Sean Haggerty. With over 50 years of teaching expertise gained from the US, Japan, and Germany, Sean developed a comprehensive riding program that emphasizes proper horse care and education while ensuring a fulfilling and enriching experience for all our riders.

After many years of dedicated teaching, Coach Haggerty has retired from instruction. Shanna Jones now oversees all training and operations at Bayberry Riding Center. She hopes to continue the high standards set by our founder.

She advanced to the preliminary level of eventing before shifting her focus to a role as a professional groom for upper-level riders, deepening her expertise in horse care and professional competition. Valuing education in horsemanship and embodying her belief in lifelong learning for both horse and rider, Shanna actively pursues growth through clinics and lessons. Starting her riding journey at the age of 8, Cat fell in love with the sport and jumped in quickly joining the show team. She competed at local hunter shows, Interschool shows and eventually eventing competitions. She went on to spend her middle school and high school summers training ponies at her family farm. Growing up on a farm with mixed livestock has given Cat a life of lessons and knowledge. She earned her BFA from VCU and taught middle school for several years. When life needed her to have a shift in career goals she returned to the barn in 2015.
